Manually-entered HTML changed or not working

    I would like to insert a few <div> elements in a page with some CSS styling added. The problem is that WordPress either changes them or ignores them. Is there any workaround for this without installing a plugin? Also, if WordPress allows some but not all HTML tags, what are the “rules”.
