Management Tab for NextGEN WordPress Plugin Not Working
-
I tried to test how the NextGEN gallery plugin works by uploading one picture, and nothing is showing up on my page! And then when I go to “Manage Album”, the page then tries repeatedly to load before showing this error message: “Request-URI Too Long
The requested URL’s length exceeds the capacity limit for this server.
Additionally, a 414 Request-URI Too Long error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request”. I need this problem to be fixed now! This is ridiculous!!!!The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Hi @gcode,
Let’s first check to see if there is a plugin conflict happening. Temporarily deactivate all plugins, then reactivate NextGEN Gallery only. Does the issue still appear? If so, temporarily switch to a WordPress default theme (this deactivation is only intended to quickly check to see if the issue goes away or is still present). If by deactivating the other plugins the issue does go away, reactivate each of the other plugins one at a time to locate the culprit. Keep me posted on your results 🙂

Hi mihai-imagely, ok, now here is what I do not like, so say after I deactivate all my current plugins and then reactivate them, and then I find the pluggin that when is deactivated, that enables the NextGEN plugin to work, do I then keep that plugin deacitvated? Suppose I need that other plugin!?
Also, how do I temporarily switch to a default WordPress theme? Will I be able to switch back to my current WordPress theme? I’m afraid I might mess up my website if I do this!
Hi @gcode
Could you please share with us the name of the plugin that is causing the conflict with NextGen Gallery? Perhaps we can quickly check if we can reproduce the problem.
– You need to keep that plugin deactivated and test with the rest of the plugins to be 100% sure that the conflict it’s only with that specific plugin.
– In case you need that plugin, you might need to check for any existing error messages and notify their developers about it. In our side, we usually create a bug report to our developers, they address each conflict according to some priorities.
– Changing temporary your WordPress theme shouldn’t be a problem. But we always recommend a full website backup every time you are troubleshooting your site.
– You can select another theme by going to Appearance > Themes.
https://monosnap.com/file/mA495CTdd0EP1wEjBOZKXIUDyk5w6G@gabyimagely, I deactivated all my plugins, except for the nextGEN plugin and it still gave problems! I even switched to a default theme, and it still gave issues! What do I now? I’m thinking of going with a different gallery plugin……
Apologies @gcode
This problem was visible a few months ago.
Let’s try the following:– Clear or deactivate any plugin cache you have installed.
– Go to Gallery > Other options > Miscellaneous > and click on “Clear image cache”.
– Go to Gallery > Other options > Reset options > and use the option “Reset all options”.Please, let us know if that works for you.
We are happy to help!@gcode This is still happening for me (I have the same issue as g@abyimagely notes above). I took all the requested steps. The observed behavior is that, on “Manage Galleries” or on an individual gallery, the page flickers numerous times and eventually the request times out with a 414 request URL error. None of the requested steps have any logical reason for being root cause, so I’m assuming these are the basic first steps of troubleshooting (such as clearing your browser cache). At this point, it kind of needs someone to lean in from a technical perspective.
What’s happening is that the request URL is too long:

If you size a text editor just right, you’ll see each request parameter is nearly identical – photolite-pro/inc/widgets/admin/chosen-init.js/ver #D1.0.0&skipjs and the URL. The only difference between lines is the skip.js version.
Not sure what’s changed here that it’s broken for others (my site is just over a week old, and completely blocked by this issue), but without a fix it’s basically useless for me. I’ve tried 4 other galleries and none of them hold a candle to NexGen Gallery, so I’m really hoping to see this fixed.
The fix? Figure out what info is really truly needed to show the manage galleries or manage gallery pages, and strip the URL down to just that info, so it comes in under the max URL length. Share your code with me and I’ll figure it out, if you need me to.
I have the very same problem, identical.
The problem disappear deactivating all of Organic plugins.
I had this same problem. After upgrading wordpress to 5.3 as well as updating JQuery and PHP to the latest, everytime I would go to manage galleries the page would refresh and append a string to the URL in a loop. Eventually, the URL would get so long that you get a server error. The URL appendage has the “skipjs” just like in the above issues. I found a line of code in the NextGen GitHub repository that gave me a hint. If you define this variable, say in your functions.php file, then the looping URL appendage goes away:
define(‘NGG_JQUERY_CONFLICT_DETECTION’, FALSE);
It looks like there is something going on where NextGen is trying to indicate it should use a built-in version of JQuery and when it appends the URL, it gets stuck in a loop. Simply turning off conflict detection seems to have resolved the issue.
I have experienced this and the problem seems to be caused by a conflict with the Plugins by Organic. Just as Lord Phobos wrote above, deactivate their plugins and it works.
