• Every time I try to run the malware scan, I get the message:
    E
RROR: The scan failed to properly scan the site.

Unable to properly scan your site. Site returning error (40x): HTTP/1.1 403 Forbidden

I have my “too many 404’s” auto block set fairly strict, and I’m afraid that at some point Sucuri’s IP address got blocked. Anyone know what IP I should look for if this is the case?

  • HI @duncantmc

This means you have something on the server blocking the scans, why it’s generating 403’s (forbidden).

Are you running wordfence? maybe some .htaccess rules? or some other tool that might be proactively blocking IPs?

    Thanks

I am running iThemes’ ban users, which sets .htaccess rules. I have my “repeated 404” lockouts set fairly aggressive, and I think I triggered a ban on Sucuri’s IP.
I haven’t been able to find my past security logs to find an IP that was banned immediately after an attempted malware scan. Is there a particular IP or range of IP’s that Sucuri uses in the scan? I’d hate to un-ban legitimate threats trying to free up the scan.
