Your posts should show instantly. But the fact that you are posting this topic makes me believe that you are having trouble with your posts not showing up instantly. Assuming that is your problem I would suggest clearing your cache.

    Thanks for the replies.

I doubt if my cache is full since I have only tried about 8 times to post anything.

I am very frustrated with my web site guy. He is the nicest guy in the world but for nearly 2 years my site does not work and he does not return phone calls.

    These are my main problems:

    1. Posts do not go to my blog page
    2. The blog page font is a silly script and needs to be something straightforward.
    3. I would want the most recent post on top
    4. I need my checkout to accept only PayPal and to calculate shipping charges so that my customers can know the cost at checkout. Also, how do I handle New Jersey sales tax?
    5. I would like to add to my “Articles” when I feel like writing something longer and more polished than a blog post.
    6. I need to learn how to change prices, add or delete products, run sales and specials, and generally run my site like a retail store.
    7. I do not yet do or know anything about social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, and anything else).
    8. I do not know how to get my site and blog advertised and noticed.

Other than that, I am up and running.

Can anybody suggest an on-line consultant or service who can help me with these issues? The subscription services I have seen online charge more than I expect to make per month, in some cases. I need someone who can do one shot tasks affordably. I get a consultant, I guess I’d have to give h/h my Admin password. At the end of the gig, is there a way for me to change my password?

    Thanks, Frank

If you are looking to hire someone then please try http://jobs.wordpress.net/ or http://directory.codepoet.com/ as we do not accept any hire offers posted to these forums.

On the other hand we are more then happy to help you work through these problems and resolve them.

Never give you admin username and/or password out on these forums. Sure if you hire someone then you can give them your username and password, but don’t do that on these forums.

    1. Posts do not go to my blog page

Did you try clearing your cache? I see many test posts on your blog page.

    2. The blog page font is a silly script and needs to be something straightforward.

Is the font being set in the theme or is there a plugin that is doing this? I would suggest you use a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-google-fonts/.

    3. I would want the most recent post on top

By default this happens. Are you using a custom made theme?

    4. I need my checkout to accept only PayPal and to calculate shipping charges so that my customers can know the cost at checkout. Also, how do I handle New Jersey sales tax?

What plugin are you using to make this shop? Chances are that you can just change this in the settings.

    5. I would like to add to my “Articles” when I feel like writing something longer and more polished than a blog post.

What do you mean by add to my “Artciles”? I don’t understand this.

    6. I need to learn how to change prices, add or delete products, run sales and specials, and generally run my site like a retail store.

You will need a shop type plugin to do this. Judging from question 4 you already have a plugin to make a shop. What plugin is that?

    7. I do not yet do or know anything about social media (Facebook, LinkedIn, and anything else).

What does this have to do with WordPress?

    8. I do not know how to get my site and blog advertised and noticed.

SEO is what you need. Do you have a plugin like All In One SEO Pack or Yoast WordPress SEO installed? SEO (search engine optimization) will help get your website up on Google and stuff.

    Hi, Matthew.

Here’s the problem – I designed the web site on PAPER and gave it to my web site guy to turn into a web site. He did what I asked and I love the way the site looks. He did a beautiful job.

How he did it, I have no idea.

Understand, I don’t know what a cache is, where to find it, and how to clear it, and whatever it is, I can’t believe 8 short tests could overwhelm it. I don’t have lot’s of tests on the blog page.

I do not know what a “theme” or a “plug-in” is so I don’t know where the font came from or how to change it.

I noticed that my most recent test on the blog (at least the ones that have appeared) do not appear on top, so the default is not working. Again, I don’t know what “custom made theme” means.

As for the checkout, I don’t know what a plug-in is or what device my guy used to set up the checkout. He is not going to tell me, so there needs to be a way to get into the site and find the answer to that question.

“Articles” is a page of the site where I have essays about my industry. I know enough about this business to know that “content driven” is important and I want to flow serious content to the site, not just to the blog.

I mention my unfamiliarity with social media just in case the person I hire to help me with WP is also an E-Commerce marketing person and can guide me.

“Search Engine Optimization” sounds like a great concept, but I don’t know how it works. Again, the term “plug-in” has my interest because it sounds like some kind of tool that I could download and learn to use.

Thank you for your extensive reply; you are a nice person. Do you think I can be educated to get my web site up and running or should I hire help?

    Thanks,

    Frank

Do you think I can be educated to get my web site up and running or should I hire help?

I think the easier option for both of use would be if you hire someone. Maybe you should look around for a person that can not only fix up your website but teach you about it while he is at it.

If you are looking to hire someone then please try http://jobs.wordpress.net/ or http://directory.codepoet.com/ as we do not accept any hire offers posted to these forums.

Also I would suggest that if you better want to understand WordPress you look through the Codex. It includes tons of information about almost everything to do with WordPress.
