Maintenance Page Not Displaying
-
Hello,
Maintenance page is enabled on my site (I even see the “Maintenance Mode Active” flag in the top bar of wordpress,) but the maintenance page does not actually display; when I visit my website, all pages show normally.
I’ve tried deleting wordpress cache & internet cache, and I’ve tried multiple browsers (all with cleared history.)
All that said, when I “delete cache” in wordpress using the WP Super Cache plugin, it says there are 0 pages stored (prior to clearing cache.) So I’m not sure I’m really deleting anything.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Hello,
I can see the site is hosted with Hostgator, Hostgator runs a caching plugin by default. Try clearing your cache if you are not seeing changes. Most likely the issue.
Let us know should you need further assistance.
Ok thanks, Franz. I’ll give it a whirl and let you know.
No problem!
Hi Franz,
Figured out how to clear cache via HostGator. Maintenance page now displays as advertised.
Thanks for all the help. Much appreciated!
Hello,
Awesome! Thank you for the update.
So an update to the update: The cache clearing trick worked the first time, but hasn’t worked since. I’ve tried 5 or 6 times over the course of a couple days, clearing cache in ftp and in the browser. No dice.
Apparently, the only way to clear cache through hostgator is log into FTP, and rename the “cache” folder within the wp-content folder. This worked the first time, but hasn’t worked since.
Aside from only working once, it’s not exactly ideal to have to log in to my ftp every time I want to turn maintenance on.
Is there no way to get the maintenance mode to show just by clicking the enable button? Switching themes, for instance, registers immediately with no cache clearing required. Would be nice if maintenance mode was as quick and user friendly.
Cheers
Hello,
Unfortunately, we don’t control the caching system implemented by your host. We have not received reports from other users that use the Plugin in other hosting companies. You may want to check with Hostgator if there is any way to whitelist your site from their caching system.
