Actually it makes a lot of sense to have a different mobile menu instead of the desktop version menu when you look at a site on a smaller mobile screen.
If you have lots of menu items, they will not all fit into that small screen and will start showing all beneath each other.
The mobile menu icon, will let your visitors see the content of your page and let them choose to use the menu icon if they want to navigate to another page.
Actually most smartphones have the option to show the desktopversion if anyone would prefer that, but in my view that will almost always not be the case?
