• Hello,
Viewing my Magazine Basic site’s category pages, the next page buttons at the bottom (1,2,3,4…14 >>) do not show you the next page.

Hover over the buttons and the link in the status bar seems right. Click one and the URL at the top changes instantly to, for example, this: http://arauny.org/?cat=3#038;paged=2. But no content of the page changes, and the button focus does not change (that is, originally I could not click on page 1 because that’s what page I was on, and after clicking page 2 I still can’t). That center section ?cat=3#038 never changes

These next page buttons do work on the home page content. Those look like http://arauny.org/?paged=2

Site arauny.org, using Firefox 35.0.1; I seem to have the latest version of the theme – only installed a week ago.

Cleared my cache, no joy. Internet Explorer same. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I seem to have fixed my problem.

    What didn’t work:
I renamed my theme and reinstalled it.
    I removed all my plugins.

Then, figuring this theme must work for others, I checked out http://www.twostudsandahammer.com, who just posted a query, and saw that their URLs were different (and their category next page works).

I changed my Permalinks (Settings menu) from Default to Post Name and it now works.

This has also affected at least a couple of other themes, Montezuma and Blanc. Apparently, after an upgrade to WordPress 4.1, if the site uses the default permalinks, the escape code #038; gets output in the pagination link instead of an ampersand (&). What the developer for Montezuma did was study what the Twenty Fourteen theme does for pagination (because it seems to work with the default permalinks) and made the corresponding changes in his code. Hopefully the Magazine Basic developer will do the same. In the meantime, though, as you have found out, if you switch the permalinks to anything other than the default, the problem will go away.

Thanks for the info. I’m grateful it’s such an easy work-around once figured out.
