    Hello!

I’m having a mysterious translation issue on one of my sites.

My site a bbPress-powered forum with a theme, that bundles “Page Builder by SiteOrigin”. Yesterday I updated the bundled-in Page Builder to version 2.10.13. I must have checked way too superficially the site, because first this morning I noticed that some translations are missing. I stress that between yesterday’s working translations and today’s missing translations nothing else has changed.

What is mysterious, is that the missing translations are relative time expressions for topics in forums. See for instance the linked in page, where English gets mixed with Finnish in time expressions.

I’ve taken a look at the translation files and they all are there intact.

Any pointers how to solve this appreciated.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Hi Juha

    Thanks for reaching out.

Does the issue persist if you temporarily deactivate Page Builder? That’ll be a helpful first step to take. If the issue persists with Page Builder deactivated then it might be best to post this question on the bbPress forum.

(There were date/time changes made in WP 5.3.)

The issue persists. While there seem to be issues with WP 5.3 update (which I was dumb enough to install today [read: more issues]), this issue predates that. I’m suspecting, that there is something, how the theme bundles your plugin.

    Addendum:
I quickly read through WP 5.3 date/time changes. I don’t think, that they apply, because the strings “weeks”, “hours” etc. no longer get translated.

Thanks for your feedback. If Page Builder by SiteOrigin is listed as a plugin in your Plugins list and is updated independently then it isn’t bundled in the strict definition of the term. We’re here to assist with whatever SiteOrigin questions you may have. However, the strings in question are managed by bbPress. We can assist with any translations that SiteOrigin plugins manage but in this case, bbPress manages the time/date output you’re looking to change.

Jep, there are many moving parts here, so I’m not sure which plays what role in my issues.

It’s quick to find that out. If you deactivate all plugins except for bbPress and switch a default theme like Twenty Nineteen and the issue remains then the issue involves the WordPress core and bbPress. Assuming the issue remains, I’d recommend installing Loco Translate, have a look, see if you can translate those strings. If you aren’t able to, posting on the https://bbpress.org/forums/ would be the next step.

Hey, that was a good point. I tested, no help, so I decided to restore the back-up from last night. Not a big loss in content. All is ok now, so it’s WP 5.3 that causes issues. Sorry for the noise.

No problem at all, I’m glad to hear you’ve made some progress in locating the issue. Cheers for now 🙂
