If I delete the folder on my server control panel that contains all the blog files in my file manager, is that tantamount to"dropping" the old db tables?
Technically, you’re not going to be dropping the tables by doing this.
In effect though you are, because if you delete the folder and ‘re-install’ with the control panel, then the new installation will completely ignore the existing database and create a new one. Atleast this is the case with CPanel.
There’s more to (un)installing wordpress than just (un)putting files in a directory.
Thanks everyone- the issue seems to be resolved. My web host may have had a role in the issue as I saw an alert and an apology for people who were having trouble with their passwords. So that may have been the cause and explain why after all the changes, I still couldn’t access my site.
