Looking for a Theme — Graphics as Menu Items

I’m helping an artist friend develop a website/blog. We are looking for a free or inexpensive theme that will allow a series of graphics to replace the individual menu items, such as on Julie Balzer’s website. I’m okay with HTML, but I don’t know a lot of CSS — and my friend knows even less! I know I can do this with Headway, but I was hoping for something that would really be configuration, rather than design.

Any ideas? Thanks!
