Login problems

I am still having problems logging back in to my wordpress site. I am hosted on 1&1 and have only been in the site once under the ‘admin’ user name when I initially completed installation. Here is what I have done so far:
1. tried to log in with http://’mywebsitename.com’/wp-login.php
2. tried to login with user name ‘admin’ & password(which is what the original email I recieved said I could do)
3. tried to login with http://’mywebsitename.com’/wp-admin
4. renamed the plugin file in the ftp
5. deleted and reloaded the wp-login file through the ftp
6. gone in myphpadmin and re-entered the password and seleted MD5. (when I save the password it changed to a string of characters every time) – user name left as ‘admin’
7. cleared the cookies and temporary cache (IE9)
Not sure what else I have done at this point. Not being a website programmer or a programmer in general, this has become annoying now after having had to go through so many steps to just install the site. Thank you.
