  • Try:
    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme’s folder in wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

    – re-running the upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php

Sounds like a borked upgrade. Do a manual reinstall of WordPress (following @esmi’s instructions above).

    Hello again,

Very good of you to reply so quickly. Your time is much appreciated.
One more question: If I do a manual re-install, do I lose the content that is on there now?

    Thank you.
    Barbara

No – your content is held in your database but, to be on the safe side, we always advise site owners to backup their database before carrying out any WordPress upgrade.
