• So, my laptop went in for repair and I cleared cache and deleted all passwords prior to it going in. Today I have laptop back and can’t login to my wordpress dashboard. I have tried every email/password combo I have written down for the various bits of my blog and none work.

    I have repeatedly tried the reset password link. I get the message telling me to follow the email link. I am not getting a reset link, not in spam and every time I have checked every single email account I own just to be sure.

    All I am getting is a notification from wordfence into my hotmail account saying that someone has tried to reset the password.

    I have now spent 3 hours trying to sort this out.

    I have read a few posts, I have logged into my host but can’t navigate it and don’t understand it. I also couldn’t fathom the posts I read.

    Please please could someone urgently help me out. I am so stuck. It’s all very well getting a notification from wordfence saying someone has tried to reset the password but I need the actual link and I’m not receiving it (I also checked that wordpress hadn’t accidentally ended up on a blocked list).

    Please help

    The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    This article lists 7 completely different ways to reset your password. Any one of them will work and do the job. Find the one that’s right for you and use that: https://codex.wordpress.org/Resetting_Your_Password

    It’s probably best, then, that you contact your host and see if they can walk you through it.

    Thanks. I’ve contacted my host. He sent me a reset password link from his end as it wasn’t coming through when I did it. The reset link came into my inbox which is progresses but when I tried to reset the password it wouldn’t authorise me to do it. The host help guy then reset the password at his end and emailed me the new password.When I entered it I just got this message;

    INSECURE PASSWORD: Your login attempt has been blocked because the password you are using exists on lists of passwords leaked in data breaches. Attackers use such lists to break into sites and install malicious code. Please reset your password to reactivate your account. Learn More

    That’s a message from WordFence.

    Yes, I suspect wordfence is stopping me getting back into my account or getting reset password links. No idea how to get round it as I don’t have an actual wordfence login, t was just uploaded as a plugin onto my account through the dashboard and I can’t login to my dashboard. Im getting lots of email notifications from wordfence but can’t get into my account.

    I’m in! They had to move wordfence to a subdirectory and then send me a new password for me to finally get in.

    Thank you so much for all of your help.

    Now be sure you set a strong password and reinstall Wordfence.

    Yes I do need to change the password but last night I just couldn’t see where this was on dashboard and not sure what I do about wordfence either so going to have to have a look
