Login from form on another website

My client’s website will be linked to from an intranet portal. That link will send form variables to our WordPress website. Within those variables is a unique identifier which will already be in the database and it will be the username/unique identifier.

When the user clicks the link, I need our website to grab that unique identifier, recognize it and automatically log the person in. Any ideas where to start?
