• When I upload new themes to try and then click the Live Preview all I get is a loop with the bottom left hand corner searching for my website files or something. I cannot preview anything after an upload or before an activation.

I am having problems in the WYSIWYG visual and HTML editor too, but will handle that in another post after this one is resolved. I am currently using the old Carrington Theme that I do not think exists any more, but I like it, it is simple to use and I do not know code nor am I a developer. I just want to see a change and if all my settings, plugins and widgets will work in a new theme if I decide to do that. I just cannot preview and set up if I want to activate.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

No I have not tried this. I am not a developer so I am unsure how to do this. I can try though. Will try to deactivate all the plugins first though. I do not think my hosting provider that I have this website with has a refresh button, I know my other provider when I am in WP it has that function.

Thank you. If none of this does the job. Not sure what I can do. When I upload a new theme I seem to lose all my settings in the prior theme and is a major hassle and sometimes even changes the layout, so I have been safe and not changing themes, but want to.

Additional info, I tried the Twenty Eleven theme in Live Preview and it still does the loop too.

No – you actually have to switch to Twenty Eleven.

Ok, I am in trouble now. As mentioned before the live preview was doing a loop and followed your suggestion to use the Twenty Eleven. All I got was a blank page, so I went back to the Carrington theme and now i seemed to have lost my front page posts. The them is even reflecting new pages. Prior to this it did not have a “Home” link now it does it also now has a “Blog” page that I never had and no none of my posts are there. I go to individual pages and they appear OK I think. The widgets seem to be where they were prior; although, I cannot be certain about their functionality or that of any plug-ins. HELP! What happened? How do I get my original website back? This is why I was afraid to change themes. The looping problem was not there prior to downloading the newest version of WP 3.4.2. Also in checking the posts seem to be alive and well on their own pages, just all are missing from home page and the shares/tweet numbers are missing and the two new page links Home and Blog appear. Did I say HELP!!!

Hi SK I also have the same issue. Seems like it occurred after an update — cause everything was working fine before for me as well 🙁

What I also noticed is that the themes that I have installed but that are not activated can also not be previewed under ‘live preview’ …. it was fine before.

When I go to a theme that I have not installed, there the live preview still works.

Esmi — do you have a suggestion to fix the problem?
