Firstly, I’ll say that in my case, it was necessary to use the shortcode as a solution to a formatting problem, in which automatic placement of the toc resulted in it being placed inside a container which I did not want it to be placed into.

So now, for whatever reason, the anchors aren’t working. As far as I can tell, the target IDs aren’t even assigned to the headings. This happens only when I use the shortcode [toc], which is unavoidable and necessary in this case.

Can you please help to diagnose the bug and propose a fix? Thank you for a rich and polished plugin.

(PS. I’m 100% behind bringing back and elaborating on shortcodes. There are many legitimate reasons why they are needed that people may not even realise, including my formatting issue.)

Please try the newly released version, 1.4. I believe that should correct the issue of the TOC target IDs not being added to the headers.

ps. I do not plan on actively promoting the use of the shortcodes … I’ll let advanced users find them. The reason, in my experience in providing support most users have a difficult time with shortcodes. If/When Gutenberg is merged into the WP core perhaps I’ll look to adding a Gutenberg block to ezTOC.

    Kind regards!
