• i’m new to WordPress, so please be gentle!

I’m designing a website for a local educational charity which has approximately 1,400 members, and I want to have a members’ only area on the site. It would appear that Ultimate Member would be suitable for this, however…

We have an existing database of our members with fields which include name and membership number. Is it possible to link the plugin to this database so that existing members will already have access to the restricted pages right from the start (using name and membership number to log in), or does it require a new database to be created from within the plugin itself, with each member needing to register on their first use?

    Thanks.

    Hi @iansawyer,

If you are referring to the existing WordPress website, yes, after Ultimate member installation your existing users will get user roles, profiles and restrictions.

No, it’s not an existing WordPress site, this is still in the process of being created.

The database we have is totally independent, albeit cloud-based, and at the moment is only used for processing membership information. It was two fields in this database which I was hoping to be able to link access to the members’ area on the new website, to.

I realise I could import data using something like the ‘Import users from CSV with meta’ plugin, however this wouldn’t automatically add new members who joined after the initial import, which is what I was hoping to be able to do.

    Hi @iansawyer,

You can try to import your users from the database and then install Ultimate member.

    Regards.
