hey , i have a same problem except i’m trying to set an external link from my portfolio images on my homepage , i have three images in my homepage and i’m using Virtue theme, i want every images go to the different external link,
i’m really appreciate your help .

does your link url start with http:// ?
This is the link i´m creating inside my theme:

This link is pasted into a settings box and the problem is that wordpress keep adding mydomain into the link so it looks like this:

I can´t remove http://www.videominute.com/ from the link because this keeps coming up automatically.

This link is pasted into a settings box
what you refer to as link is an image html tag with some script code, which might be the reason for the problem.
as this ‘settings box’ is not generic to WordPress but likely from your theme, it might be the best if you contact your theme’s developer (via themeforest ?) for support with what you can enter into the settings to get a valid link…
