Hi. I’ve read other threads which seem too relate to my issue but the suggestions made do not fix the issue. I want to add a link so I highlight the text I want to use. I then click the ‘link’ button, add the URL and update the ‘link text’ box. What used to happen was that the highlighted word I use as a link remained unchanged to the reader and when the link was hovered over the link text would appear. Now what happens is that entering anything in the ‘link text’ box changes the words on the site page and there is no link text box when a reader hovers over a link.

I’m running latest WP and latest TinyMCE Advanced and didn’t have this issue before. I now cannot properly add links or edit the ones I already have. Please help.

    Thanks Dave.

In fact I just noticed that if I want to edit an existing link there is no link text option available at all!

The thing that shows in the tooltip when hovering over a link is the Link Title. In WP 4.2 they removed it from the standard link dialog.

The Link Text is what is shown in the post. So, of course if you change it, it changes what’s in the post.

Since you’re using TinyMCE Advanced, go into its settings and check the box for Link (replaces the Insert/Edit Link dialog) and you’ll get the Title field back.

Hi Mark. Thanks for such a fast response. I now understand the difference between link text and link title, so a good thing for me to learn there. WP removed the link title – weird!

But you’ve obviously sorted t out and ticking the box has restored the link title and more. Really good plugin by the way and seems to be getting better all the time, despite WPs best efforts to screw it up!

    Thanks again.

    Dave.

For anyone else banging their head on this, it looks like the fix only works in the visual editor, not in the text editor. Still it’s a fix and I’m happy for it. Thank you!
