Link shortener for Sociable

    Sociable gives you the option of using awe.sm as a link shortener. However, awe.sm says that they over “overwhelmed” and are not giving out any more invites. Without a link shortener, some of my “share” functions particularly the Twitter button, aren’t very useful. Is there a way to use another shortener with Sociable, or does any have another sharing plugin to recommend?

    The ‘la petite url’ plugin for wordpress seems to do a good job of shortening links and is not dependent on third-party link shorteners.

    However, this plugin only results in a link-shortening function that allows you to present the shortened link on your blog.

    It seems to me that it might be possible to somehow integrate this link-shortener function with sociable.

    But his would require altering the sociable php code which I’m not sure how to do.

    Does anyone have any ideas?
