Hi there, just use the default TinyMCE button after selecting that shortcode to turn it into a link.
That doesn’t work. The icon doesn’t show up after I turn it into a link. Regardless of whether or not i use TinyMCE or straight text.

Can you please share an example of the markup you are using?
Would it be possible to paste that inside a code block so that I can actually see the source unrendered?
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://mysite.com/">see more</a> - share: <a href="https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=bit.ly/url-032">[icon name="facebook-official"]</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/intent/tweet?text=url-032">[icon name="twitter-square"]</a></p>
Hmmm, that’s odd. Looks good to me. Do you have a URL where I can check this in action?
Down at the bottom of the page where is says “SHARE” there’s two icons that should be there, but aren’t. Something is clearly in the way.
