• I have some programming experience and understand full stack development in general. I would like to learn and become a WordPress developer. I hope to learn the inner working of WordPress deep enough to make contribution. I’m looking for a comprehensive training program, not just courses that teaches part of WordPress and without any sense of progression to a more advance level. I have seen courses offering such as Udemy, but they are not comprehensive and leaving me with even more questions. Any recommendation to a good training program?

PS. The training materials on WordPress.org is like an alphabet list of topics, and while the materials are impressive, it is no way to teach a subject as complicated as WordPress!

You can make contributions in many fields, see: https://make.wordpress.org/

There are many WordPress courses on the web. A solid working knowledge of PHP is a minimum requirement as well as basic HTML/CSS/JS.

Begin with creating a WordPress theme from scratch, then a plugin. You will learn the basic functionality of WordPress and be able to expand from there.

I’m with @idegopg06 on this. The docs are so all over the place it is hard just coming to this to get a grasp of it. I am not versed in PHP but it seems just like function names doing what you want like JS in some respects. The docs could be way better.
