Yes, you can use mo and po files to translate the plugin to your language. The files should be called as for example:
SD_TEXT_DOMAIN-it_IT.mo
SD_TEXT_DOMAIN-it_IT.po
The files should be uploaded to the following directory:
“/wp-content/plugins/sell-downloads/languages/”

Well I already did it, but any time your plugin has been updated, then those files disappear 🙁
