Because WGRank uses an ultra-fast static .html.gz caching engine to deliver translated pages with zero PHP overhead, the language switcher HTML was being cached with the source language’s flag active.
We have just released version 1.1.0 which completely resolves this!
We’ve added an ultra-lightweight client-side script that instantly detects the active language from the URL and dynamically updates the switcher’s active flag and text directly in the browser, even on statically cached pages.
Please update the plugin to the latest version (1.1.0), clear your site cache, and the flags will now update perfectly when you switch languages!
There’s no such thing as WGRank version 1.1.0 in the WordPress respository.
The available update version is 1.0.7 which does not solve any of the highlighted troubles.

In the near future, consider adding a customizer for language switcher, to make it easy for the regular user to customize the switcher.
Make it possible for users to decide whether languages should be listes alphabetically or sorted by total speakers (most spoken first, which is much more relevant). Not many people care about Afrikaans.

We’ll also consider adding an option to sort languages either alphabetically or by total number of speakers, with the most spoken languages displayed first. We agree that this could make the language list much more useful for most users.
