Jetpack Publicize: Twitter Authorization Question

    I’m curious as to why the authorization for Twitter sharing via Jetpack gives the app these permissions:

    See who you follow, and follow new people.
    Update your profile.

    That seems a bit much to me. I don’t want the app to follow new people or update my profile. Can you explain why these permissions are required? Am I being paranoid?

    In order to publish tweets on your behalf, the app needs to have Read/Write access. (see the documentation here). The app settings do not offer any other settings, so we can’t be more precise in the permissions the app requires from you.
    I believe that Read/Write access allows the app to follow people, so you can follow suggested Twitter accounts right from the site, after sending the tweet.

    Rest assured though, we won’t start following new people on your behalf! 🙂
