    Hi Folks,
This is my first post so please go easy on me.
I purchased Jetpack a few weeks ago to tighten the security on my WordPress site, I know absolutely nothing about the backend of my shop, so I asked the guy who designed my website to load it all in and set it up for me but he’s having some problems with it.
If anyone answers this topic please be patient with me as I have to communicate with my web designer via email so things might take a while unless it’s a quick fix. This is what I have at he moment from my web designer “His Words”

The Vaultpress part of the plugin is working fine, but for some reason the Jeptack site will not authorise itself with the site – all I get is a message that states the following:

“We were unable to make an XML-RPC request to your website. Please make sure that XML-RPC is turned on and that Jetpack is installed, activated and connected with your WordPress.com account. If the error persists, try disconnecting and connecting Jetpack again.”

I’ve done everything that they’ve suggested, but it doesn’t seem to make any difference… I’ve also queried this with the hosting company, and they have checked, and confirmed that the XML-RPC is enabled in the server. I asked them to have a look at the site, and they can see successful XML-RPC connections to the server”

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

We’re being blocked from accessing https://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk/xmlrpc.php which Jetpack requires to function.

Unfortunately, blocking XML-RPC is not a great solution for fighting security risks. It’s akin to selling your car because you don’t want it to be stolen.

Your site’s XML-RPC file is kind of like a communication gateway to your site. Jetpack, the WordPress Mobile Apps, and other plugins and services will use this file to communicate to your site. If this is blocked, you will have other issues pop-up down the road for the same reasons.

If you are using any security plugins, please try connecting with those temporarily deactivated. If you don’t have any, or if that didn’t work, I would suggest contacting your hosting provider and asking them to unblock your site’s XML-RPC. The most popular hosting providers out there have managed to find other ways to protect their servers without having to hinder your site and your ability to use services with your WordPress.

If they refuse to make any changes, and if you want to use apps and plugins like Jetpack, I’d suggest looking for a new host. Here are a few hosts we recommend: https://jetpack.com/hosting/

    Hey,
Thanks for your answer and help, I will put this to my web designer.
He has been in touch with me today with following Hope it makes sense.

    Hi Kevin,
the hosting company have said the following:

We have Jetpack globally whitelisted on our server so it’s not us I’m afraid. I’ve posted a log below showing successful XML-RPC requests from Jetpack.

    http://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk 192.0.89.182 – – [01/Nov/2018:15:45:37 +0000] “POST /xmlrpc.php HTTP/1.1” 200 133 “https://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk/xmlrpc.php” “Jetpack by WordPress.com”
    http://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk 192.0.89.182 – – [01/Nov/2018:15:45:41 +0000] “POST /xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack&rand=497621786 HTTP/1.1” 200 231 “https://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk/xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack&rand=497621786” “Jetpack by WordPress.com”
    http://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk 192.0.89.182 – – [01/Nov/2018:15:45:50 +0000] “POST /xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack&token=Jx%26RqD6BR%40%40tD%23x%23%25FViP%23%29GxUEn%26R%264%3A1%3A1&timestamp=1541087150&nonce=3I7eEA3TFa&body-hash=pdst%2B%2B8gjpsEsdzTGdS19%2BYN3g4%3D&signature=hH0cRaJo%2BveoQUrqIPIRFEe4CWI%3D HTTP/1.1” 200 233 “https://www.themilitarycampaign.co.uk/xmlrpc.php?for=jetpack&token=Jx%26RqD6BR%40%40tD%23x%23%25FViP%23%29GxUEn%26R%264%3A1%3A1&timestamp=15

This would suggest that JetPack is communicating with the server ok, but we’re still not able to authorise the account.

The only other thing I can think of, is that Jetpack may not be liking the fact that your user account on the site has a different email address than the one you’re using with WordPress.com. Jetpack is trying to authorise the access to the siet, but perhaps if there isn’t a user with the same credentials it might not work – this is just a hunch though
    Kind regards.

Thanks for that. The email address shouldn’t matter, since we only really look at the WordPress.com account you’re using.

Did you get a chance to see whether you’re using any other security plugins that could be conflicting?

Also, have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting Jetpack yet?

    Hi,
Thanks for your speedy reply, I haven’t tried either yet but I have just sent the questions to my website designer via email and am waiting for a reply, unfortunately this may be tomorrow but has soon as I have an answer I will put it straight on here.
    Thanks and very kind regards.

Thanks Kevin. No rush. My best guess though is that there is indeed a security plugin blocking things if your host is not blocking. We’ll look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,
I’ve had a reply from my web designer “his name is Titus” save me calling him my web designer all the time.
    This is his reply:

    Hi Kevin
I have tried connecting without any security plugins (we’ve used All In One WP Security), but this doesn’t seem to make any difference.
I have tried uninstalling and replacing JetPack – I can’t disconnect it, as we’ve not been able to connect in the first place.

I have been in touch with the hosting company but they are saying talk too the plugin developers.

I don’t know if it’s any help or not “as I know diddly squat about the internals of my site” but I have looked under the heading of WP Security and it does have the following:

    Database Security
    Filesystem Security
    SPAM prevention

There is also a VaultPress plugin

    Regards.

I still suspect it’s an issue with the security plugin(s) but if disabling those did not help get the connection through, or if it didn’t at least change the error you got when trying to connect, I’d recommend reaching out to support:

OK, thank you for all your help, I may be back after I hear back from Titus.
Very kind regards and have a great weekend.
