Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed

I have 6 sites running WordPress. All are in the same shared hosting package with GoDaddy. The first 4 sites have Jetpack registered and running without problem. The other 2 sites cannot register Jetpack. I get the infamous “Jetpack could not contact WordPress.com: register_http_request_failed…” error.
The 2 sites with the problem (vieveke.com and rosslyn.nl) both have fresh WordPress installations with original Twenty Fourteen theme and no added plugins and no added content.
I have put in support requests to wordpress support who say they cannot access the page “xmlrpc.php” (however, I can access it). WP support asked me to contact the hosting company to resolve this. So I spoke to GoDaddy support for about 2 hours trying to resolve the issue with no success, they can’t find anything wrong.
