Javascript error Visual editor not working

Hello,

Recently the visual editor broke; no editing buttons, couldn’t switch between visual & text, and text in the edit window was white-on-white.

I have auto-updating on, so I have to assume it was with the update to 4.7.1 from 4.7

Tried all the usual tactics to diagnose – disabled plugins, changed theme to twentysixteen, etc.

After pulling my hair out for two days, I found a link to the codex article “Using Your Browser to Diagnose JavaScript Errors”

Sure enough, turning on script debugging solved the problem.

So what do I do now? I have to manually enable script debugging every time I want to create or edit a Post or Page, then disable it.
