• I installed the iThemes Security(formerly Better Wp Security) and now I can’t access my website. I get a server 500 error with a misconfiguration message. How do I fix this if I can’t access my wp-admin on typing the site as part of my localhost url? How do I get rid of this plug-in? I did the backup before installing the plug-in but don’t now where it put it or how to restore from there. Same with my DropBox backup.

I think a post like this belongs in the forum. This is no review.

Anyway there are several things you can do.

To disable (deactivate) the plugin simply rename the better-wp-security folder.

Can you be more specific in regard to “server 500 error with a misconfiguration message” ?

The Internal server error 500 msg is often caused by something in the .htaccess file. First create a copy of the .htaccess file. Then remove everything between these lines:

    # BEGIN iThemes Security – Do not modify or remove this line

    # END iThemes Security – Do not modify or remove this line

And then see whether that allows you to access the website again.

If so you could start adding iTSec .htaccess conf lines back per feature to figure out which one breaks your site.

Well I had to reinstall WordPress to get rid of the iThemes Security plugin but now my DashBoard has disappeared because it says page not found. The pages on my Blog no longer work with the page not found message. Help.

If you do have acces to ftp i would suggest to rename it.

If you don’t have acces then i would suggest to try to acces the dashbord a couple of times and then try to refresh the permalinks in the wordpress menu.

And i would suggest to contact your webhost.
