You have an <em> tag in your HTML — which makes everything italic for “emphasis.”
Look for this HTML code and remove the opening and closing em tags:
em>
<div class="span-8 last sidebar">
Look like it may be in more places than one.

I’ve viewed the posts that are appearing in italics on the homepage, using the HTML view in the editor, but can’t see any code.

It’s also possible that those errant tags are coming from the php files — or a plug-in — whatever is generating that content…
