Issue with WordPress Popular Posts: Sorry, no data so far

    Hey all,

    I’ve just noticed I have the same problem as others with this plugin but I’ve only just noticed it and so it’s probably been like that for a while.

    When I try to look at the data for 24h, week etc, I get the ‘sorry, no data so far.

    I just checked my DB and I do have the wpp_popularpostssummary in my tables.

    The thing i’m not sure about is the “Also, does your theme have the wp_head() function on the <head> section?” – part that I saw in one of the other threads.

    I have WP 4.0 installed with the Thesis 1.8.5 theme.

    Any help or assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi there,

    Something is causing a 500 Server Error on your blog, which is also the reason why WPP can’t work properly.

    Try any of the following:

    • Edit your site’s wp-config.php file and set WP_DEBUG to true: define('WP_DEBUG', true);. That way, WordPress will output the error message on screen and you’ll know exactly what’s going on.
    • Ask your hosting to check the error logs for you, specifically those that might be related to admin-ajax.php.

    Thanks for your reply,

    a 500 error? Are you sure? My blog is working fine, I’m on it right now.

    Just incase the full blog URL is http://www.unlimitedchoice.org/blog (but the other URL should redirect to it anyway)

    I just tried to enter that debug code into my wp-config and it was showing debug code all over my homepage so I’ve removed it for now.

    Yep, there’s a 500 error in there – even if your blog seem to be working fine.

    The reason I asked you to enable WP_DEBUG was precisely to see the “debug code” you mentioned 😛 Those lines are error lines and they tell you what’s wrong with your site.

    You see now the usefulness of WP_DEBUG? Heheh.

    Anyways, sounds like the problem might be plugin related so let’s try this:

    1. Disable all of your plugins, except for WPP.
    2. Visit one of your posts (use a different browser or logout from wp-admin first).
    3. Go back to wp-admin, and if everything went OK you should see a new visit on WPP’s stats page. If so, then it is definitely one of your plugins the cause of the 500 Server error.

    Give that a try and let me know what happens, ok?

    Hey Hector,

    I found the problematic plugin – it was a plugin I had installed wp-tweet button.

    It’s now deactivated.

    I’ve also installed jetpack and go rid of WP.com stats

    Sorry to be the party pooper, but while WPP is working again the 500 Server error is still there 😛 You really should check that.

    Hey Hector..

    I’m sadly not a web developer so I wouldn’t even have a clue where to start…

    Thanks for the heads up though – I’ve removed a whole load of plugins today, made sure everything is up-to date, including my thesis theme.

    I’ll speak to my hosting company to see if I can get any help.

    By the way – where do you see this 500 error? They might ask me to explain where I’m seeing the 500 error?

    You can see it in the Javascript console (any developer would know what it is). If you’re curious, you can see how to access it here.

    The errors should also appear on your server’s error log, so your hosting should also be able to find it there easily as it’s triggered on every page load (even on your homepage).
