Is this the advertising WordPress inserts?

    On one of the WordPress.org website pages I support, I noticed a couple of hyperlinks appearing which I did not provide. Both point offsite to advertisements. Is this an example of advertising inserted by WordPress? Is this what would disappear if we paid to prevent advertising?
