Support » Plugin: Sydney Toolbox » Is this plugin needed or optional?

  • Resolved ironfish2

Hi the intro to this plugin says:

This plugin registers custom post types and custom fields that are needed in the Sydney theme

This implies this plugin is a pre-requisite for the theme to run properly – ie it is needed, not an option for the theme.

    Is this true?

If it is needed by the theme, why not put it in the theme?

If it is optional, then please consider changing the wording of this plugin description.

Right now I do not have this plugin installed and I do not know if my theme needs it or not, so I am not sure if the theme is stable or not.

    Thanks ahead of time.

The plugin is needed if your intention is to create services, employees etc., as it is explained in our theme documentation. It’s in no way needed for the theme to run properly. If you want to use only for a blog or maybe use just third party widgets to build your site, you don’t need the plugin.
To be more clear: look at the Sydney demo, if you think you’ll need the services, portfolio, employees, testimonials and clients sections, then you need the plugin.

The functionality of the plugin can’t be placed directly in the theme because it lets you create custom content, and that’s not allowed for themes.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks very much for clarifying….
