• Hello — I’m not a developer so please excuse the dumb questions. I’ve read multi network but its not 100% clear for me. I have a requirement to upgrade an existing website that has a single community to multiple disparate groups on a single site. An example: single site featuring CARS, FASHION and COOKING. People registering for COOKING don’t want to see anything about SPORTS unless they choose to register. All content shared remains in the cooking GROUP level. Each cooking group will have communities (Baking, Grilling, etc.) and forums underneath (Gas, Charcoal, etc.). Member can use profile to join other disparate groups and or navigate between groups. Is this an example of mult-site network capabilities or something else? Does the bbPlus plug -in with multi site or any plug-in support such a requirement? Thanks for helping in advance.

  • It sounds like a good candidate for a Netowrk set up. The biggest thing about using a Network is that all of the sites are separate, but they will share a common user-base as subscribers. So if osmeone signs up at the c’cars’ site, they’ll also be able to access the ‘cooking’ site with the same user account.

For the BBPress forums, that’s all contained by each site, and you can (if I remember correctly… it’s been a while) set permissions on the forum categories for who can read, post, moderate, etc, and that’s something that is controlled by each site individually, not by the Network system.

It sounds to me like your setup is WordPress + Buddypress + bbpress. There are a couple of different possibilities but WP single site with these plugins will dothe job for you. If each group requires a blog then that would be a multisite setup or if you only have a single blog then that would be standard WP single site.
