• I am starting a new company and we will be selling insurance websites to insurance agents. When an agent purchases a website from us they get to choose from two different themes we have. We build the first four pages for them, which will basically always be the same content from site to site just changing some key information about the city and state each different site is targeting. There will also be 7 different choices as to type of insurance the site is targeted to market.

The ultimate goal for these sites when an agent purchases one is to generate sales leads in their local community.

You can see a demo version of this here http://www.daytonohioburialinsurance.com

I am thinking multi site would be good for me for the following reasons.
    1. Easier for me to keep up on the updates
    2. Each new site i sell will be easier to set up
    3. Each site could have two different domains it would use such as http://www.daytonohio.burialinsurancequotes.com and http://www.daytonohioburialinsurance.com the second would have a permanent 301 forward to the sub domain.

Am I on the right track with this? I plan on having hundreds of these different sites out there so being able to do updates for them all in one wordpress panel rather than across the board in all of them would make more sense to me.

    Thanks for any input!

  • I am a big fan of Multisite as is Mika, but last weekend she told us why NOT to use multisite. You can view her talk here:

One reason why you might consider not using multisite is that all of your subsites share a single user base. Although registering for a single so does not automatically give one access to another site, that name and email address will go into the single user table for the multisite.

Users and the law are the two reasons I might not Multisite this, but… It’s a pretty good candidate.

We build the first four pages for them, which will basically always be the same content from site to site just changing some key information about the city and state each different site is targeting.

Beware. You MAY want to instead have a company wide 4-pages, and on each location have only their specific info, as it’ll be more Google Friendly 🙂 But at 4 pages, you should be okay.
