    is it safe to install phpbb3 forum inside my wordpress installation? i would like to install it in a folder forum under my wordpress installation so that i can access forum using URL http://mydomain.com/forum .

    You can’t install it in the same folder… That would leave you most likely with 2 index.php files in the same place which wouldn’t work

    However, the situation you describe sounds fine, you can install any other software (generally speaking) in its own folder, within the wordpress folder
