    Hello everyone!

    So, where to begin??

I am hosting through bluehost and have created a wildcard subdomain on the same directory as my primary site.

I have multisite enabled and working; I was able to create a subdomain site, got the “site created” email, and imported the contents of a blog I’d like to shut down (the dashboard looks normal–I can see the correct information in the “Right Now” and “Recent Comments” area). However, when I attempt to view the site, check recent posts, look at media files, or anything that would take me to the site itself, I get this message:

    Invalid query: 1146: Table ‘starvip1_wor2.icl_3_rfr2b_options’ doesn’t exist

I’ve gone into myPhpAdmin and the file appears to be there with the correct website and everything.

I tried chat with bluehost and couldn’t get any help.

    Any ideas? Thanks much!

I tried deleting the wildcard from cPanel and then tried to open the sub-site; got an error message that said “Sorry–Google Chrome could not find” the site.
I went back and created the wildcard again. My primary site is http://starvingactivist.com, so the sub-site is http://caveofscribes.starvingactivist.com. When I visit http://testing.caveofscribes.starvingactivist.com, I get a page that tells me I am the site administrator, that I can get new sites up in seconds, and the list of sites I am already a member of (both the starvingactivist.com and the sub-site are listed). However, when I click the link to open the sub-site, I still get the same error of

    Invalid query: 1146: Table ‘starvip1_wor2.icl_4_rfr2b_options’ doesn’t exist

In cPanel, my wildcard is “*” with a root domain of .starvingactivist.com, and home folder/document root of /public_html which is where my wp-config.php file is.

Does the user ID you’ve got as your DB user have FULL permissions to the database?

As far as I know the user ID had full permissions. There is only one user ID.
I decided to try another tactic for the moment. I created a wildcard database and let it choose a default location (in bluehost’s cPanel it created a folder called “wildcard” in the home directory). The knowledge base over there says it can take up to 72 hours to populate the wildcard (seems weird to me that it should take that long!), so I’ll give it a go. Now when I go to the sub-site I get a banner for bluehost (see here: http://caveofscribes.starvingactivist.com/). I’ll wait a day or so and see. Someone once said that patience is a virtue and it’s one I’m working hard to earn 😉

You’re not making a wildcard database but a domain, so if you did that wrong…

(in bluehost’s cPanel it created a folder called “wildcard” in the home directory)

    Yep, that ain’t right.

Did you do it this way: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/527

    Thread Starter arobinsonneal

    (@arobinsonneal)

    Yes…my bad: wildcard folder 😀

I followed those directions and it created the wildcard folder in the home directory.

I opened a tech support ticket and got this answer:

    Hello,

I have corrected this issue for you by following the instructions listed here: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/527

When I access the subdomain http://caveofscribes.starvingactivist.com I do not get a bluehost page, I get a text error: Invalid query: 1146: Table ‘starvip1_wor2.icl_5_rfr2b_options’ doesn’t exist

Right. I went to check the page myself and what do you know…the infamous Invalid query is back. I opened another ticket.

I checked my files in bluehost and there is a wildcard folder with the basic stuff in it (); I checked the subdomains page and it lists my wildcard as *.starvingactivist.com so it should be pointing to my document root.

Waiting now for the second ticket to get a response, but if you have any thoughts I’ll take ’em!

I checked the subdomains page and it lists my wildcard as *.starvingactivist.com so it should be pointing to my document root.

Okay this is 100% correct 🙂 Good! Leave it alone 😉

When I visit http://testing.caveofscribes.starvingactivist.com, I get a page that tells me I am the site administrator, that I can get new sites up in seconds, and the list of sites I am already a member of (both the starvingactivist.com and the sub-site are listed).

This is also correct, you’re looking at a SUB subdomain.

    caveofscribes.starvingactivist.com has the error.

    icl_5_rfr2b_options is …weird.

    1) What’s the DB name?
    2) What’s the DB prefix in your wp-config?

    Thread Starter arobinsonneal

    (@arobinsonneal)

Database name is starvip1_wor2 and the table prefix is icl.

When I go into my phpMyAdmin and look for the bit that’s listed as not being there, I find starvip1_wor2, then seek out the icl_5_options table, and voila! there it is. It seems populated properly; siteurl is correct, the email address is correct, user is correct, “home” is correct, blogdescription is right. I don’t get it.

Then what the heck is rfr2b …o.O

You should have this for your tables: icl_#_NAME

where # is the site number, and NAME is the name like _options and _posts.

All your plugins are off, right? And you didn’t have any to try and obfuscate the tables for your main site?

    Thread Starter arobinsonneal

    (@arobinsonneal)

On the plugins bit: I turned them off to set up the network, then I turned them back on. Should I turn them off again, delete the subdomain and try again?

When I scroll down farther on the DB page, there are tables that have the rfr2b in them, but they don’t have the _5_. The _options one seems to be the script that allows a reader to leave a comment or something…

I got a response from bluehost support pointing me to the MU domain mapping plugin for WP. Gotta run out for a moment but will try creating the subdomain again after turning off all plugins and installing the domain mapping plugin at the network level…

Well. 5 is I THINK your side ID for the subdomain. But yes, turn off ALL plugins. See if that magically fixes it. Don’t delete the site yet.

    Thread Starter arobinsonneal

    (@arobinsonneal)

I turned off the plugins, but had deleted the site. I went ahead and created a new one and it was there. Am I able to turn my plugins back on after the site is created?

    Thread Starter arobinsonneal

    (@arobinsonneal)

    D’Oh!!!! [in Homer Simpson style]

The issue was that I had plugins activated at the network level. I am cooking with gas now, thanks to you. Where can I post a great big giant thank you? You are fabulous!!! Thank you so much for your patience Mika–you hung in there with me!

Yay! Yeah, some plugins do NOT like being network activated.

(If you are that way inclined, there are kickback links on http://halfelf.org/ but a thank you like that warms the cockles of my elfy heart!)
