You have a older PHP version installed. It’s known and we drscriped it here: https://wordpress.org/plugins/category-posts/faq/

I’m receiving this same error on a system running php v5.4.45

How do you check the version? Please do it simple with a .php file and write <? phpinfo(); ?> into it. Than call it.

If the error still occure, please leave us the error string here.
