Hello dasped,
is the site behind a reverse proxy like Cloudflare or similar? You probably want to have a look at “How Wordfence gets IPs“.
Let me know if you think that might be it!

Hi wfasa…
Unfortunately no, that’s not the case. All my sites with wordfence configured are running on my VPS server without ever seeing an issue. Just this single install with the issue.
Thanks.
The database is corrupted or tables are missing? Are you seeing any issues on the Wordfence “Diagnostics” page?

Nothing jumping out other than the following comparrison when checked against a working installation.
Working Installation
Broken Install
Thanks

So, I have today deactivated and deleted the plugin, dropped all relevant SQL tables and gone for a fresh install without success, exactly the same issue. I don’t understand it, never had an issue like this with any other website.
dasped,
a few more ideas then:
1. Have you tried setting Wordfence “How does Wordfence get IPs:” to REMOTE_ADDR?
2. Is your site behind some other Firewall?
3. Is your site able to connect to Wordfence servers? (You should be able to see this on Diagnostics page)?
4. Did your site run out of disk space?

1. Yes, no difference.
2. No firewall
3. Connected to server, no issues.
4. No
Asked Server support to take a look and they have noted:
JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.0
_admin.js?ver=1.0.0:47 Uncaught TypeError: jQuery(…).sortable is not a function
I created subdomain fresh WP install and WF works fine on it.
I have also tried deactivating all other plugins whilst I went through a fresh WF install, no joy. I’m going to switch theme and try fresh install next.
Any thoughts?
Hello again,
well if it works in a fresh subdirectory install of course my suspicion would be that the problems in your root install are due to some plugin conflict. But you have tried deactivating all other plugins so I guess that’s not it.
I think the javascript error is caused by the lack of data rather than the other way around.
If you visit your site from a different browser than the one you are logged in to, is anything entered in to the database table wfHits? If it is not, then there should be some entry in your servers error log.

Thank you sincerely for your time and patience with this matter wfasa. It is greatly appreciated.
I have now reinstalled WF with a standard WP theme and WF was working fine. The moment I switched to my current theme the live reporting broke again.
Apologies for my delay in getting to this point. I just never assumed it would be theme related due to so many working versions with many different themes.
I have now opened a ticket with the theme developers and will link them to this post to see if they can fix the issues. Hopefully, once fixed, I can report with their explanation of events to perhaps assist you with future understanding.
Hi dasped,
good job identifying the root cause! We don’t see theme conflicts very often but it does happen occasionally. Much appreciated if you report back when you know. 🙂
Hi.
Can you list the theme that caused the problem please? This is because I’m googling around trying to find a solution to a similar problem. I will try changing my theme, but good to know if it’s the same theme we’re using. Thanks.
Hi speedy_snail,
can you please start a new support thread and describe the issues you are experiencing in as much detail as possible? It’s easier for us to follow up on issues if they are dealt with separately. Thanks in advance!
Thanks. I have already started another thread for my issue. It’s still useful for users to give more details in threads that aren’t too old, as it helps others.
