intra-site linking

I could find no references to this topic younger than seven years.
Lorelle’s informative discussion of 7 years ago appears to need updating.
I am trying to make links from one post to several earlier posts. Can I use a category in the URL to access a particular post?
The system uses yyyy/mm in a link to take me to monthly archives. This is fine if there is only one post during that month. In my blog multiple posts in a particular month will have been assigned to a different category. I tried putting /category/ in the URL that would otherwise take me to the archive – it didn’t work.
Is there a way to do this?
