I am running several virtual servers all with wordpress installed in them. When I try to update Ultimate TinyMCE I get an Internal server error 500. If I rerun the update several times in a row the update eventually installs and TinyMCE updates correctly. The error I get when I am trying to update is:

    error 500: Internal Server Error

One of my virtual servers needs me to install the wp online store plugin but when I tried to install it from wp-admin/plugin-install.php I got the same internal server error. So, I used FTP to upload the plugin to the virtual server. However, when I try to activate the plugin I get Internal server error 500 and I am not able to activate the plugin. I have deactivated all other plugins but that does not help.

Does any one have any idea what would cause the error or how to fix it?

Here are the lines from the apache error log:

[Wed Dec 05 18:51:13 2012] [warn] [client] mod_fcgid: read data timeout in 31 seconds, referer:
[Wed Dec 05 18:51:13 2012] [error] [client] Premature end of script headers: plugins.php, referer:

  • I found the answer to the problem. I had to increase the Maximum PHP script run time in my servers control panel.
