Thank you, that was very helpful. Will you ever be able to make the comments become part of the database?
I could do that right now, but it doesn’t make much sense to do so. Replies can’t go back to Facebook, so people replying to those imported comments won’t get their replies seen by the original writer of them.
But the comments should still be stored in the database in case, for whatever reason, they are unavailable on Facebook in the future. Unless I’m misunderstanding.. the Facebook comments are not stored on the wordpress site right?
Either way, it doesn’t matter whether replies can go back to Facebook or not. The Facebook commenter can click the link anytime to go check the main comment stream. This makes more sense, especially considering that the goal should be to direct more people to the actual post anyway and not keeping the traffic within Facebook.
Regular commenters will not know their comment was replied to or not either, unless the site has the subscribe to comments activated.
Well, there’s a spam issue there as well. If somebody posts something on my Facebook post and I remove it, then I don’t want to have to go remove it in another place as well.
