Instillation

Hey Im having trouble installing wordpress and I’m not quite sure what to do.

I unzipped the wordpress file and in mySQL I created a database called wordpress, I then created a new user and a password. I updated the wp-config.php file with the new database, username, and password. But when i try to run http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php i get an error

Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

can someone guide me in the right direction from here.
