Installing WP in a temporary subdomain

    I am going to rebuild an active site for a client. I want to build it, then – once the new build is approved, replace the existing site.
    I usually have no trouble on bluehost or godaddy, but this is elink/intelliwire host that is not optimized for WP and client does not want to change to a new host.
    I have uploaded WP, extracted it, and run the wp-admin/install.php, filled in values (user, password, etc.) but get nowhere trying to access it with the temp domain to login and begin building. I just get an error: Index of /

    Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong? The host is of no help at all as they are not familiar with WP. Thanks!
