Installing WordPress Blog onto my website

I have never put a blog on my website before. Do I have to install WordPress onto my own computer or do I install it onto my website itself and if so, how do I do that?

I also need to customize the template by putting in my own link and text colors, my own header with another picture, my own background tile, can I do that?

Can you please give this to me in steps?
