Installed on server or locally?

I think I’ve messed everything up. I host my personal website on A+ Hosting/ Serverpoint.com and use CS2’s “GoLive” software to update my website. Recently decided to move a blog over from Blogger.com to add it to my website. A+Hosting allowed an installation from their server, which I did, as a subdirectory to the root, plus creating the MySQL Database.
But it didn’t seem to be working right, so I later installed WP on my Mac w/ MAMP, and ended up with folders I manually imported to GoLive and uploaded. Everything there concerning WP is in a subdirectory folder called “blog.”
I have managed to add a couple of plugins awhile back, but recently added Subscriber2 and a couple of others, and they never appear on my plugin panel to activate. I suspect I’ve got something wrong somewhere in how I’ve set this all up. HELP!
