• Hi I have just installed all of the files to the Public_html folder except the file index.php won’t go accross to the server due to a file already called this. This file belongs to my website.

I can run word press but I can’t see the blog when you want to view it

    What can I do

  • It sounds like you need to create a subdirectory for your wordpress installation if you already have another website in the root directory.

thanks for the information I have created it in a subdirectory now how do I get to the subdirectory to run the installation file. as I used the following in the broswer

    http://domain name/public_html/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

this only brings up my web site page unfound

    Thanks

    http://domain name/wordpress/wp-admin/install.php

    try that.

May I join this thread, please? My problem is almost the same.

I had a website by the same name as my blog already in public.html, but I want to abandon it and have a blog only, i.e., I don’t want my blog in a subdirectory.
After uploading WP, much to my astonishment when I checked after uploading WP, that website (of one page only) came up.

If I now upload a theme of my choice, will I be able to override the existing file in favor of the WP theme? If not, how should I proceed? I’m trying to avoid trouble by doing it right the first time.

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi thanks to those that have helped me with my installation I have learnt a lot form your help. I am not to sure of how to solve amki issue

    good luck

    amki,

download the index.htm or index.html that is inside your ‘public.html’ than delete it off your webhost. You will have a copy of the file you deleted off there, and wordpress will now load for you.

Thank you for your help/response, whooami andRovick. I appreciate it.
