• I uploaded a theme and got the message “Installation Failed.” Yet it shows up in Appearances/Themes. I want to Delete it but there is no “Delete” button. I have a screenshot but do not see how to include it here.

I want to remove it because I was trying to upload an ‘update’ to the theme I am using and need to re-do (retry) it. Thank you for helping, Sue

  • It’s because you are currently using that theme. Enable another theme (twenty forteen as ex.) and remove it.

I do understand that process and each theme shown has a delete button, except the one I want to delete.

    Active: Preferential Child
    Preferential 1.0.2 – has a delete button
    Preferential 1.1.0 – NO delete button *****
Twenty Fifteen – has a delete button
Twenty Fourteen – has a delete button
Twenty Thirteen – has a delete button

Active theme can’t be deleted.. active another theme then the delete btu will be showed

    Maybe this is clearer.

    Active: Preferential 1.0.2 Child
    Preferential 1.0.2 – has a delete button

    Preferential 1.1.0 – NO delete button *****

Twenty Fifteen – has a delete button
Twenty Fourteen – has a delete button
Twenty Thirteen – has a delete button

OK – I did what you said and now Preferential 1.0.2 Child Theme is gone!
Along with all the customization I have done!

Didn’t you backup the child theme? :O

And one thing to be clear… In your question (first message) you didn’t tell that u have a child theme so I told to remove that. And in 3rd message, you told you have a child theme and I told in forth message,

active another theme then the delete btu will be showed

    .
I work with self made theme (learning yet) and didn’t work with child theme but i believe the child theme still in the folder /wp-content/themes/child-theme. something like that. give it a shot.

Yes I have a backup. But I cannot install it. The message says I need the parent theme installed first, which it is.

Let’s end this conversation. Thanks for trying…..
