Installation and authentication question

    I am new to php and WordPress. First, love the product. Yippee for me.

    Second, I am hosting a few site with uplinkearth and they facilitated the install of WordPress on a new site through their cpanel.

    I completed the changed to have the index.php in the root of the www site and all looks fine. I love it.

    Problem: As soon as I hit the Login link I am presented with a Windows Authenticiation Popup. Is this normal?, or has my hosting company done something odd in the install like protect some files or directories? Does the WordPress require authentication outside of the user/pwd that is stored in MySQL?

    Curious …

    Did you have any previous .htaccess file in your root?
    WP generates it’s own and could be conflicting.
    Or your host’s default is to password protect the root which you will be able to undo somewhere.
    Contact your host.
