install using Xampp problem

right here is the thing I installed xampp on my comp, installed wordpress in htdocs. now as far as i am concerned this is root for wordpress. but when I setup network and the plugin MU mapping I am told that this is not the root, when i try to do a fresh install in the wwwroot I could not get it to run in Xampp, so can some one tell me how or where to put it and how to tell Xampp to point there
